DOCTOR OF SOCIAL WORK (DSW)
The Doctor of Social Work is a professional doctoral qualification run by The College of Social Work (the training arm of the Institute of Social Work of Nigeria) and awarded under the approval of the Joint Council. It draws on the existing experience of social workers in practice with a good Masters degree in social work for the award. Candidates are expected to have been in practice and involved in an outstanding social work research, project, programmes, cases, or activities that can be documented and defended. The Doctor of Social Work (DSW) programme admits qualified domestic students (Nigerian citizens or permanent residents) and international (Visa) students. The Doctorate degree is also useful for further study for holders of academic PhDs in relevant fields that are interested in core social work concern or consulting. This programme is unique and combines both professional and academic rigour towards the production of graduates with strong pedigree and status as Social Work Consultants, Researchers and Scholars. Core strength for participants will include strong grounding in social case consulting, research, practice excellence and presentations. It will also equip and impact graduates with strong skills in consulting, academic, professional practice and grounded in research concerns in international social work. The programme admits qualified Doctor of Social Work (DSW) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) holders in Social Work with scholarly experience in social work practice, consulting, research, learning & development, etc. Core strength for candidates will include strong grounding in academic and professional scholarship, social case consulting, research, practice excellence and presentations. The Doctoral Fellowship is also useful to holders of academic PhDs in other related fields that are interested in core social work concern or consulting.
Interested candidates are expected to hold any of the following qualifa *Doctor of Social Work (DSW) *Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work *PhD in other related fields that are interested in core social work concern or consulting. Candidates should have a good research topic in social work. Eligible proposals should describe the applicant�s commitment to professional social work education and practice; suggest how his or her Doctoral Fellowship work would be an appropriate preparation of a career in professional practice, teaching/learning and development.
Review and Selection Process
Candidates are admitted for the Doctoral Fellowships programme all year round.
Duration of Programme
The programme takes a year to complete and thereafter the award of Doctoral Fellow will be conferred on successful candidates.
During the programme, Doctoral Fellowship candidates are expected to participate and/or deliver professionally research papers at some selected Institute� seminars and during the annual international conference during each fellowship year.
